Ohio Virtual Academy High Reviews

This is my daughters second year at OHVA. She is dyslexic and dysgraphic. Although she attended a brick and mortar school with a good rating she was struggling academically and emotionally. Within her 1st year at OHVA she was able to pull her reading up to grade level and reach Advanced level in all categories of the Ohio Achievement test. The curriculum is challenging but the beautiful part is when your child is not grasping a concept you can keep working at it until they do. In a classroom you need to get it or be left behind because the class will move on.

This is our 3rd year with OHVA, but 1st year in the High School. Why to go! I have a son with ODD and ADHD...he does wonderful. The lessons are complete and he enjoys going to class. The added extras are awesome...he can go to the Big Think and meet kids just like hi all over the country in a safe environment.!

This is my first year with OHVA - my son is ADHD and struggled with traditional public schools. This is the first year that he actually enjoyed his classes and able to do his lessons at anytime. The flexibility of schedule is nice especially when he has athletic activities. OHVA expects the child to master the lessons and gave my son an opportunity to review lessons. OHVA family community is also very supportive.

Last year was the first year my daughter was a student at OHVA. She was able to retain much more than when she went to a public school. Although she always did very well on her state achievement tests, her test scores actually improved over previous years. I look forward to the coming year.

Last year was our first year for our son. The difference from the public school was night and day.My wife is a stay at home and that is a big advantage. There is no question that he learned more this past year than the previous year.Think outside the box. Think OVHA.

Difficult if both parents are working; excellent, yet challenging curriculum; too many students assigned to each teacher--not enough one-on-one when help is needed

My children attended OHVA for one year and it was the most awesome experience for them and me. I learned everyday with my children and I can't stress how spectacular the curriculum is. If every school followed the OHVA style, this country could solve alot of its problems.

We have been an OHVA family for four years. It has been a wonderful experience to work with teachers who care about the student and not just the state's achievement tests as a foundation for educaiton. The school has a great curriculum and the ability to either work above grade level or slow down to accomodate other issues if necessary. No child is left behind in this school. This school is just as accountable if not more so than the public schools in our area. I am thankful for OHVA.

OHVA uses K12 curriculum. It is user-friendly and comprehensive. We have had field trips to the Museum of Natural History, COSI, and holiday parties. We have music and art classes and competitions. I am very involved. My daughter is in first grade, so I teach her all of the lessons. We get weekly e-mail newsletters from her teacher. She has made many friends and we are able to travel and take our work with us. We record attendance and receive lessons on the computer, so anywhere there's a computer we can have school. The teachers are all accredited and some have advanced and specialized degrees. We have opportunities to meet the head of school, staff, and principals.

excellent support from a real teacher makes this school superior to any school in any district. the child in this school is exposed to an accelerated curriculum at his or her own pace and receives support from a talented teaching staff. no brick walls are needed for this school because its foundation is based on strong roots of great educators and great thinkers.

Ohva has been a great experience for my daughter. Her learing has just skyrocketed the teacher have been so great. I would highly reccomend ohva and the k12 curriculum.

Excellent traditional curriculum. Self-paced study, opportunity to work on problem areas more intensely. The program is well-organized and the staff is helpful. I highly recommend this program for a parent who has time to devote several hours a day to teaching her child at home. The middle school curriculum would be challenging to a non-college educated parent. I am using the 7th grade program and have seen great improvements in my daughter's math skills and writing skills.

The Ohio Virtual Academy uses the superior curriculum K12. The courses are far superior to what you'll find in your local public schools, and even in most private schools. The charter school sends you this curriculum to use at home with your child, so a fair amount of parental involvement is necessary, depending on your child's are. The teachers in this charter school are a wonderful support and not intruding in any way. If you are currently unhappy with your public or private school, OHVA and K12 might be just what you've been looking for!

Ohio Virtual Academy Is the best choice of school if you want your kids to have a safe enviroment and quality education. OHVA's administration is outstanding. enroll your child into OHVA today at www.Ohva.org if you Want your child to be in a #1 School.

OHVA (ohio virtual academy)I would say has excellent teachers. The teachers will help anyone who asks and they are very professional. You have to meet face to face 4 times a year submit to testing and send in samples 4 times a year. You have calls every month so you can speak with the teachers about concerns they may see or just to let you know all is well. If there is a problem they call more often. For whatever this school may lack the Teachers and the k12 material more then make up for. This is my 2nd year and I school 3.

A public chartered school using the k12 curriculum developed by William Bennett(former Sec. of Education),where children log in daily from home on a school provided free computer to take tests, view interactive subject lessons, and keep track of attendence and progress hours. Along with the up to nine boxes of supplemental materials(textbooks, workbooks, manipulatives, and art and science supplies), I have never seen a more complete curriculum that corelates from subject to subject. My Daughter enjoyed learning about the early colonies in history and then decided that if we had lived in that time period as a family she would of loved to have been a limner by trade.

OHVA is a virtual public charter school. Parents teach children at home with guidance, support from certified teachers and staff. I've been with OHVA since 2002. Curriculum considered classical, advanced for grade level. Students expected to read well by 2nd grade. Phonics program out of this world, best I've ever seen/used. Produces great spellers. Read lots of classics. History is fun, language arts, thorough. Lots of writing! You receive all books, science, music and art supplies, workbooks, textbooks, and computer. Non-comsumables returned to school at year's end. Mixture of on and offline lessons. Great online management tools for parents. Takes a few weeks to adjust to the curriculum and online school. Can be hard to teach multiple students. Must be disciplined. Students required to meet state proficiency standards. Teachers and staff are caring, helpful, have desire for excellence. Check out OHVA.org - Call school to speak to a current parent.

The Ohio Virtual Academy is an excellent alternative to traditional schools. The school provides everything needed to teach your child a rich and engaging curriculum. You receive great skilled teachers to provide encouragement and support, planned enrichment and social activities and all the supplies needed, free of charge. K12 is a superior curriculum and we have been so pleased using it! I would recommend Ohio Virtual Academy or K12 to anyone!

My child was a student for two years at the school. The curriculum was advanced for the grade level and also for the public schools in the area. The book,s, computer and art and music items were given to you. The only items needed to teach were ink for the printer and paper. You were given a small amount of money to pay for the internet fees. Teaching over the internet was great the lessons are well done with excellent graphics and links to other web sites which made the lessons all the more interesting. Teaching this way allows you to be flexible on hours of teaching to your child. If your child is ill you can teach on the weekend. The negative side is that the learning disabled child needs more hands on help (time), from the special education teacher who visits the home monthly.
