Harvard Elementary School Reviews

I love this school! My daughter is in cheerleading, girl scouts, plays violin. the parent involvement is great and she has an outstanding quality of education. best public school in the city!

I have had a child at Harvard for 4 years now. Last year due to the teacher being in a program to become a principal, we had over 11 subs and no help from the principal to help the children with the constant change. (this is still going on) We have alot of parent involement, but with not code of conduct for the parents they often are put in situations in which they are forced to act poorly towards children. With the teachers it's a hit or miss every year. The principal, as she has said, is overworked and understaffed. That is often her excuse for not following up on things and doing the majority of her duties. They no longer have recess because she says she does not have the time to go out with them. Needless to say we have removed our child from Harvard.

I expected something excellent from this school of excellence. We withdrew our kids today. The last three years have been difficult for both of my kids; out of district transfers have taxed the infrastructure with no additional support staff that is deperately needed.

My child has been attending Harvard for a few years now and like everywhere there are some good teachers and some not so good teachers. I am dissapointed in the principals ability to problem solve and communicate with parents. Every school also has it problems and Harvard has its share. It is a school of excellence because of the commitment of parents to their childs education and the teachers who are really there for there students.

I find the Teachers are of the best quality, and truly care about all the students

The teahers at Harvard are Excellant and go the extra mile to help when needed. The parent organization also does a great job.

I am very happy to have been able to transfer my children from Newbury to Harvard through the No Child Left Behind Act. My daughters were both top of their class at Newbury and some of the teachers were excellent in giving them extra work to challenge them but in other classrooms they were completely left behind. Since they came to Harvard last year they have been significantly more challenged in their scool work and I am confident that they are learning. My fourth grader did not receive straight A's this year but her test scores have sky-rocketed indicating that she now has to work harder for her education but is retaining more information. My third child was just recently transferred to start Kindergarten and I have no qualms that all will be well with him also.

My mother attended Harvard as did I. Now I have 2 kids of my own attending and one who completed K-6 there. There are a few teachers there who only do the bare minimum the union tells them to. The 2 best teachers in the school is Mr Chisholm (4th grade) and, Mrs Ratigan (5th grade) Both are great communicators and excellent educators. Most of the others I've dealt with are ok but those two stand out.

This school is one of the finer ones in Toledo Public Schools. All the teachers are willing to lend a hand in helping the students achieve their goals. The student to teacher ratio is also great. Not to mention the academic scores, in which they have achieved the 'Excellent' rating for a few years running. If you want one of the best schools in Toledo Public Schools, this would be the one.

Harvard is a great school because they show how the kids are doing. They have great teachers and a great principle'

I have not had such a great experience with Harvard School.I think that the lack of communication from the school to the parents is fundamentally lacking- I usually learn about school events from my first grader, when I should have heard about them from the teacher, or Principal. I cannot come to conferences because of my work schedule, but have made myself available for phone conferences with the teachers, and have had only a marginal success rate with that, because only one of the 4 teachers I have dealt with has ever called me.

Harvard is a wonderful school. It is a favorite pass time in the city of Toledo to bash the public school system, but my daughter in first grade has had two fabulous teachers who have both taken time in the evenings to call and update us as to her progress. A friend with a daughter in a private religious school was shocked that a public school teacher would call parents at home. She's never received such a call in six years.
